About climatic damages

Enterprises experiencing failure in plant crop- or honey production may be eligible for applying for financial compensation.

The unalterable condition is that the damage to production is a result of climatic conditions. Damages which are - or could have been - insured, by means of regular insurance schemes, are not compensatory.  An additional condition is that the enterprise has an obligation to prevent and limit climatic damages.

Four compensation schemes are regulated by the by-law in question:

-          Compensation for harvest failure

-          Compensation for winter damages on meadows

-          Compensation for loss resulting from honey production failure

-          Compensation for loss of bee hives

  • Additional information

The compensation schemes in plant- and honey production sectors are financed through the annual national settlement on agriculture.

Applications are certified at municipal level and subsequently handled by the county administration. Eventual complaints are handled by the Norwegian Agricultural Agency.

It is now possible to apply for compensation using the Altinn portal.

The Norwegian Agricultural Authority is responsible for producing statistical data on compensation claims.
