Pest infestation

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority can as part of an effort to combat pest infestations instruct enterprises to eradicate plants. The affected enterprise is entitled to compensation for plants that - by means of decree - have been instructed to be eradicated, as well as with regard to eventual costs for complying with the decree.

  • Compensation for expenses following decrees

The compensation scheme for cases related to public decrees on pest infestations intends to reduce financial losses for enterprises who comply with decreed measures. However, the scheme does not fully cover all rendered expenses in context with complying with decrees.

     Compensated items:

    -          Plants and plant materials targeted for destruction

    -          Machines and tools targeted for destruction

    -          Necessary materials

    -          Work expenses related to complying with the decree

The application must be sent to the county administration no later than six months following completion of compliance with decreed measures. The application can be forwarded electronically through Altinn.no or by post to the country administration.

The compensation scheme is regulated in by-law (NO): Forskrift om erstatning etter offentlig pålegg i plante- og husdyrproduksjon.
